An enormous gray-bearded knight with a face like a cliff and a voice like gravel. Missing two fingers on his left hand from a Sunmaw border skirmish in his youth. A hawthorn branch tattooed in white ink around his sword arm, the Order's mark. Has fought in the Third Crusade and buried most of his friends in the Sunmaw. Believes the crusades are holy and believes they cannot be won, and has never resolved the contradiction; he simply obeys. Kind to squires, ferocious to enemies, contemptuous of the Office of Truth, which he considers cowards with candles. Honorable, fatalistic, brave beyond sense. Will lead the Fourth Crusade knowing exactly how it ends.
