River Talodin

The lifeblood of the desert, fed by snowmelt from the south Spine and flowing southeast past Faashab-Talodin and Mazbaaran to Lake Shorooq; the gold talod is named for it. Zarvani say it was once a serpent that agreed to lie across the desert if it was never dammed or cursed and if a girl walked its length every year to greet it, and the Walking of the Talodin keeps that bargain. It ran dry in stretches during the Long Drought of 330–338 and ran low in 1137, when Avisteer III wrote to Tharax asking that the headwaters never be dammed and got no reply. In 1139 Talodin fire broke the Third Crusade at one of its crossings.
