Tandosa
Castavar's chief port is the home of its ocean navy of high-castled galleons and the navy's pilot school; Castavari navigators use the Zarvani star tables in secret, although the Berrode has banned them. Captain Modarsa Tandosno of the galleon Bairnaro Drosdo, the navy's best pirate-hunter, is a Tandosa fisherman's daughter. The harbor smells of sardine barrels and drying octopus, the ocean tuna is netted offshore in spring, and dolphins ride the galleons' bow-waves. Its taverns tell King Llelilo's refusal of water as the story of a fool, and they share the joke of Two-Fathom's wooden foot with the pirates. Every Tandosa sailor swears his first oath on a cup of seawater while the priest looks away. Coastwright boats trade here, and the Brotherhood's crew of Castavari deserters is called the Tandosa Ghosts.
