The Pale Waste

The far-north ice shelf beyond the Frostmarch, where almost no one lives. It belongs to the Uusung, about five thousand ice hunters in twenty or so camps who keep reindeer, hunt seal, and meet once a year at the Long Dark's vigil. The frost bear, which the Uusung worship and the Hrodvald fight, lives here, as does the tusk-walrus of the ice edge, and the ice tern summers here and winters no one knows where. What lies north of the ice, the Uusung say, is theirs.
