The Frostmarch

The northern tundra, pine taiga, glaciers and fjord-cut coast that the Hrodvald hold, with winters seven months long. Its hard years mark the chronicles: the Gray Cough reached it in the 160s, the Frostmarch Famine of 432 sent Hearthking Anoga Wolf-Mother south to buy grain, wolves came into the longhouses in the Wolf Winter of 570, it starved in the Year Without Summer of 623, and in the Great Winter of 1089 a third of it died. Its beasts are the Farvig elk, the pale Frostmarch wolf that hunts in packs of twenty, the ice seal, the tusk-walrus and the Hrodvald hound. The Hrodvald say the Frostmarch is what fell off Selthar's anvil of ice while he forged the world: the scraps that would not bend.
